The car, branded Kiat Esemka, was assembled by students of the SMKN 2 vocational high school and presented to the Surakarta city administration on Monday.
Students started work on the sports utility vehicle (SUV) in September 2011, using 80 percent of locally made materials. The assembly process was supervised by the Kiat Motor automotive workshop.
Jokowi used the new SUV to monitor the issuance of e-ID cards at the Banjarsari district office before meeting Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand Lutfi Rauf at City Hall.
"I have already used the car today. It is as comfortable as my old Toyota Camry I had been using, even more comfortable," he told reporters as quoted by tempo.co.
So far Kiat Motor has produced 10 similar cars in cooperation with 10 vocational schools in Greater Surakarta.
