TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro says that Indonesia will send military personnel to the Thailand-Cambodia border.
"We coordinated with the foreign minister when he was visiting Cambodia and we've started to prepare our observer team," said Purnomo yesterday.
The troops are now being trained at the Indonesian Peace and Security Center in Sentul, West Java. The training was held after Thailand approved the deployment of the peace corps at the border.
Agus said that Indonesia was asked to send the Peace Corps in 2011 because when the dispute took place, Indonesia was serving as ASEAN head.
However, at that time, only Cambodia approved the move. "Thailand rejected it because there was a change of power in their country," said Agus.
Previously, 30 people were scheduled to be deployed to the border. Agus said the troops would be deployed by May at the earliest.
